Sunnah of the Prophet SAW - Do not blow on food

The Prophet (pbuh) forbade blowing into one’s drink.
[Tirmidhi]

Sheikh Muhammad Ali Al-Hanooti, Azhari scholar and member of the North American Fiqh Council, stated with regards this hadith:

The Hadith mentioned that the Prophet (pbuh) did not allow breathing in a bowl or a container of food or water when it is for you and other people to drink or eat out of. But if the container is solely for you, you can blow on it to make it cool. The Hadith has nothing to do with a person blowing over food or drink to make it cooler if he has his own container. This action is not what is meant by the Hadith. (From islamonline.net)

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him) said in Sharh Riyadh al-Saaliheen (2/457):

That is because if a person blows (into the vessel), some harmful things may come with the air that is exhaled, such as disease and the like. But some of the scholars made an exception in cases of necessity, such as if the drink is hot and he needs to drink it quickly. In that case some scholars granted a concession. But it is better not to blow on it, even if it is hot. If it is hot and he has another vessel, then he may pour some of it into that vessel then pour it back until it cools down. (From islam-qa.com)

The Preventive and Healing Wonders of “Wudo”

by Lamya Tawfik
"Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. It is no less than inspiration sent down to him”
(QS An-Najm/53: 3 & 4)

I have a confession to make. I never really took my time to make wudo (ablution) the way I ought to. By ‘ought to’ I’m referring to the detailed care that was encouraged by our prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). However, when conducting the research for this article, I felt quite foolish, to say the least.
Not only was I squandering the chance to get more reward for perfecting ablution, but I was also wasting golden opportunities to enhance my health and general well being.

A Daily Ritual

Fourteen centuries ago, our Prophet (PBUH), a walking encyclopedia if I may so describe him, gave us a prescription of 26 washing movements to be carried out 5 times a day, a total of 130 daily washing movements, to grant us optimum health.

“O ye who believe! when ye prepare for prayer, wash your faces, and your hands (and arms) to the elbows; Rub your heads (with water); and (wash) your feet to the ankles. If ye are in a state of ceremonial impurity, bathe your whole body. But if ye are ill, or on a journey, or one of you cometh from offices of nature, or ye have been in contact with women, and ye find no water, then take for yourselves clean sand or earth, and rub therewith your faces and hands, Allah doth not wish to place you in a difficulty, but to make you clean, and to complete his favor to you, that ye may be grateful.” (QS Al- Maaida/5: 6)

Before a Muslim performs his prayers, he carries out the ablution movements mentioned in the above verse as well as others, which the Prophet (PBUH)) has added. Thus, the ablution comprises of washing the hands, arms right up to the elbow, face, mouth, nostrils, and feet up the ankle, all three times each. The inside and behind the ears, as well as the part of the head above the forehead is wiped once.

Done five times a day, it not only cleanses these vital parts of the body from dust and dirt but also "softens" and refreshes them.

Interestingly enough, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also encouraged doing ablution before going to bed. This same ritual is also encouraged by Yoga experts who say that washing important motor and sensory organs such as the hands, arms, eyes, legs, mouth and genitals before sleep using cool water relaxes the body preparing it for a deep sleep.

Sunnah of the Prophet SAW - Place your hand on mouth when yawning

The Prophet (pbuh) said:

"Should one of you yawn, let him place his hand over his mouth and avoid a yawner's howl. Even Satan derides the howling yawner."

Sunnah of the Prophet - Eating what is on one's plate

The Prophet (pbuh) told the Companions (ra) to finish what is in their plates, and said,

“For you do not know where in your food the blessing is.”
[Muslim]

SubhanAllah, nowadays many of us waste food and fail to finish whatever is on our plate, while most people in the world do not even have food to eat. We should keep this in mind and try to finish our food- if we feel we are full, we should learn for next time not to fill our plates so much, and if we are eating out and have no choice with regards to the quantity, we should take the leftovers as takeaway and either eat it later or give it to someone who will.

Manners when reading the Al-Quran

Manners of the Heart

A. Understanding of the origin of the words

This is an indication to the greatness of the words being read, and the bounty of Allah; Glorified is He, to His creation when He addressed His creation with these words.

B. Putting into the heart the understanding that these are not the words of man.

Through this the reader should think about the characteristics of Allah the Exalted.

C. Presence of the heart while reading.

Through this the reader should throw away other thoughts while reading the Qur’an.

D. Pondering the meaning.

There is less reward in reciting the Qur'an without understanding the meaning. The Qur'an was revealed for guidance and this can be achieved through recitation accompanied with pondering.

E. Understanding the meaning.

This means interacting and reacting to every verse according to what is proper for it.

F. Individualization

This means that the reader feels that every message in the Qur’an is meant especially for him personally.

External Manners for reading the Qur’an

Purity of body and clothes and place.

Using sawak.

Facing the Qiblah.

Seeking refuge from rejected Satan and reading the basmalah.

Not reading when yawning.

Avoiding cutting off reading to talk with people.

Stopping at a verse of warning and seeking protection with Allah, and stopping at a verse of mercy and asking The Merciful for His Bounty.

Humbleness and crying when reading.

Imam An-Nawwawi may Allah be Merciful to him said: Crying when reading the Qur’an is a characteristic of those who know Allah (know Him through His names and Characteristics) and the feelings of the righteous.

Sunnah of the Prophet - Sleep on your right

The Prophet (pbuh) advised that when one intends to sleep,

"he should lie on his right side"
[Muslim]

Sheikh Muhammad Al-Munajjid comments:

This indicates that sleeping on one’s right side is Sunnah, and if a person does that to follow the example of the Prophet SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), he will be rewarded for that. Sleeping on one’s left side is permitted, but one misses out on the reward for following the Sunnah. And Allaah knows best. (excerpted from islam-qa.com)

Sunnah of the Prophet SAW - Give Gifts

The Prophet (pbuh) said:

“Give gifts to one another, and you will love one another.”

[Bukhari]

Give someone an unexpected gift today- inshAllah you will be rewarded for following the sunnah of the Prophet (pbuh); for bringing delight to another person (extra ajr if it is your parents or spouse); and it will be counted as sadaqa for you!

Make a habit of setting aside some days to give gifts to people. May Allah reward you!

Doa selepas membaca Al-Quran

Maksudnya:

Jadikan ia perisai kami, Wahai Tuhan seluruh alam.

Surah Al-Mulk

Kelebihan Membaca Surah Al-Mulk

Sunnah of the Prophet SAW - Sleep with Wudhu

Allah Knows Best

Sunnah of the Prophet SAW - Drink in 3 gulps

Anas ibn Malik (ra) relates that the Prophet (pbuh) drank water in three breaths (i.e. in three gulps/sips) [Tirmidhi]

Water should be drunk in three breaths, that is one should breathe three times outside the drinking vessel one is drinking from. This habit has a salutary impact on one’s character and helps one avoid doing things in haste.

Bulu Binatang - Adakah Najis?

Duaas For Stress And Anxiety

In hadith narrated by Abdullah ibn Abbas in Sunan Abu Dawood, The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

If anyone continually asks pardon, Allah will appoint for him a way out of every distress, and a relief from every anxiety, and will provide for him from where he did not reckon.

Source for this dua subsection: Fiqh-us-Sunnah, volume 4, no 128

1. Ibn ‘Abbas reported, “The Prophet, peace be upon him, at times of sorrow and grief used to supplicate,

(There is no god but Allah, the Mighty, the Forbearing, there is no god but Allah, the Lord of the mighty throne, there is no god but Allah, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, and the Lord of the throne of honor)."

Source: Bukhari and Muslim.

2. Anas said that when the Prophet, peace be upon him, was faced with a serious difficulty, he would always supplicate,

"Ya Hayyu, ya Qayyumu, bi-rahmatika astaghithu"
(O the Living, O the Eternal, I seek help in Your grace)

Source: Tirmidhi

3. Abu Hurairah reported that whenever the Prophet, peace be upon him, was faced with a serious difficulty, he would raise his head to the sky and supplicate,

“Subhan-Allah al-’Azim"
(glory be to Allah, the Mighty).

And when he implored seriously and strongly, he would say

“Ya Hayyu, Ya Qayyum"
(O the Living, the Eternal One).

Source: Tirmidhi

4. Abu Bakrah reported that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said,

The supplications of distress are,

(O Allah, I hope for Your mercy, so give me not over to my self even for as little as wink of an eye, and set right all my affairs, there is no god but You).”

Source: Abu Daw’ud

5. Asma, daughter of ‘Amais, reported that the Prophet, peace be upon him, asked her,

Shall I tell you words that you may say in times of pain or distress. These are,

"Allah, Allah, Rabbi la ushriku bihi shai’an"
(Allah, Allah, my Lord, I associate none with Him).

Another narration says that these words should be said seven times.

Source: Abu Daw’ud

6. Sa’d ibn Waqas reported that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said,

“The supplication made by the Companion of the Fish (Prophet Yunus) in the belly of the fish was,

"La ilaha illa anta, subhanaka, inni kuntu minaz-zalimin"

(there is no god but You, You are far exalted and above all weaknesses, and I was indeed the wrongdoer).

If any Muslim supplicates in these words, his supplication will be accepted.”

In another report we read, “I know words that will cause Allah to remove one’s distress. These are the words (of supplication) of my brother Yunus, peace be upon him,”

Source: Tirmidhi

7. Ibn Mas’ud reported that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said,

“If any servant of Allah afflicted with distress or grief makes this supplication, his supplication will be accepted: ‘O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of your maidservant. My forehead is in Your hand. Your command conceming me prevails, and Your decision concerning me is just. I call upon You by every one of the beautiful names by which You have described Yourself, or which You have revealed in Your book, or have taught anyone of Your creatures, or which You have chosen to keep in the knowledge of the unseen with You, to make the Qur’an the delight of my heart, the light of my breast, and remover of my griefs, sorrows, and afflictions‘.

A supplication in these words will be answered. Allah will remove one’s affliction and replace it with joy and happiness.

8. Anas reported that the Prophet, peace be upon him, used to supplicate,

O Allah, there is no ease except what You make easy, and you alone can turn a difficulty into ease.” (Ibn As-sinni)

Solat Tahajjud - Makna & Fadilatnya

MAKSUD SOLAT TAHAJJUD

3). Abdullah bin Umar mengatakan, “untuk melaksanakan solat Tahajjud” hendaklah tidur kemudian bangun dan berwuduk.

(Hadith Riwayat an-Nasa’i dan Ibnu Majah).

5). Imam Syafi’i berpendapat, solat malam baik sebelum tidur mahupun selepas tidur, dan solat witir dinamakan Tahajjud.

6). Hadith dari Ibnu Abbas r.a. yang mengatakan: (maksudnya)
Kita diperintah oleh Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam supaya mengerjakan solat malam (tahajjud) itu dan menganjurkannya sungguh-sungguh, sehingga beliau bersabda: Hendaklah kamu solat malam walaupun hanya satu rakaat.” (Hadith Riwayat Tabrani)

Wallahu a’lam..
Semoga biskita semua mendapat ganjaran pahala daripada Allah… Amin.

Solat Tahajjud

Ertinya: "Sahaja aku sembahyang sunat tahajjud dua rakaat kerana Allah Ta'ala."

Tiada Tuhan melainkan Engkau. Tiada daya dan kekuatan melainkan dengan Allah."

Take Care of Today Only

A happy person once said:

"The beautiful day is the day on which we have control of our affairs and our affairs do not control us. It is the day on which we control our desires and we are not controlled by them like slaves.

Some of these days I can remember and will never forget.

Every day on which I managed to save myself from the vicious circle of worrying about what I can and cannot do is a wonderful day.

How wonderful is the day on which I was hesitating whether to do a deed for which people would praise me, or a deed for which no one would praise me, and no one would know about it, so I forsook the praise of people and was content to do an action which I will remember for as long as I live, but which no one will hear about.

How wonderful is the day on which I felt that my pockets were filling with money but my conscience was devoid of dignity, so I decided that I would rather be penniless and have a clear conscience.

These days are wonderful, and the most wonderful thing about them is that my worldly gain on these days is very small, but the fact that I gained self-respect from my actions far outweighs that, and what I gained on such days is great, praise be to Allah, the Exalted, All-Merciful."

Sunnah of the Prophet SAW - Say Bismillah and eat with your right

The Prophet (pbuh) said:

"Say grace (Bismillah); eat with your right hand; and eat what is close at hand" [Muslim]

When we recite the name of God before we eat, or when starting to do anything, what that means is, “I start this action accompanied by the name of Allah or seeking help through the name of Allah", seeking blessing thereby. Indeed, the Prophet (pbuh) taught us that whoever does not say bismillah before starting something good, then it will be cut off from blessing.

As for eating with our right hand, Al-Ghazaali said in al-Ihya’ (4/93): "Then the One Who gave you two hands to do things with, some of which are noble, such as picking up the Qur'an, and some are ignoble, such as removing impurities. So if you pick up the Qur'an. with your left hand, and you remove impurities with your right hand, then you have used that which is noble to do something ignoble, and you have neglected its rights and wronged it, and turned away from what is proper"

Al-Nawawi said in Sharh Muslim (13/191): "The objection to eating and drinking with the left hand applies so long as there is no excuse. If there is an excuse which prevents one from eating and drinking with the right hand because of sickness, injury etc, then it is not makrooh."

Sunnah of the Prophet SAW - Wear your finest clothes

The Prophet (pbuh) said:

“There is nothing wrong with any one of you if he buys two garments for Friday other than his workaday clothes.” [Abu Dawud]

This means that it is mustahabb (recommended) that one has something special, or his best clothes, to wear on Friday. A further indication is given in the following saying of the Prophet (pbuh):

“Whoever takes a bath on Friday, puts on perfume if he has some, wears his best clothes then goes out, walking in a dignified manner until he reaches the mosque, then he prostrates in prayer if he wants and does not disturb anybody, then he remains quiet until the imaam comes out and he prays, that will be an expiation from one Friday to the next.” [Ahmad]
