Ramadhan Sunnah - Be (Extra) Generous

Ibn Abbas narrated that the Prophet (pbuh) was the most generous amongst the people, and he used to be more so in the month of Ramadan

[Bukhari]

Imagine that even though the Prophet (pbuh) was known to be the most generous person, during Ramadan he was even more noticeably so. So we should not be content that we are simply ‘good’ or nice or giving outside of Ramadan- but we should push ourselves to increase that during this holy month.

First and foremost, let us be generous with our money. This is all the more urgent considering the catastrophe in Pakistan, as well as in other places including our local communities.

If we give charity every night, and one of those nights turns out to be Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Power), which is a night better than 1000 months (Qur’an 97:1-5), the reward for that piece of charity will be the reward for doing it for 1000 months! SubhanAllah

But moreover, let us remember that generosity is not simply to do with money. It is any good deed, especially those that concern helping others, so let us go out of our way this month to be generous with our actions too.

Ramadhan Sunnah - Perform more Sunnahs

The Prophet (pbuh) said:

“Whoever draws nearer (to Allah) by performing any of the (optional) good deeds in (this month) shall receive the same reward as performing an obligatory deed at any other time, and whoever discharges an obligatory deed in (this month) shall receive the reward of performing seventy obligations at any other time”

[Ibn Khuzaymah]

Let us revise and implement the sunnahs we learned, in order to grow closer to Allah and earn His pleasure!

Solat Sunat Tarawih & Witir

Solat Sunat Tarawih

Cara-Cara Mengerjakannya:

Ramadhan Sunnah - Say "I Am Fasting"

The Prophet (pbuh) said,

“When any of you is fasting… [and] if anyone reviles him or quarells with him, he should say ‘I am fasting’.”

[Bukhari/Muslim]

The Prophet (pbuh), in the same hadith, described fasting as a shield, and that a fasting person should not raise his voice or indulge in obscene language. Thus if someone quarrels with us, we should remind ourselves and the person that we are fasting in order to prevent ourselves from responding and indulging in vain and potentially harmful talk.

Niat Puasa Ramadhan

Ertinya:

Ramadhan Sunnah - Read Al-Quran

It was reported that Jibril would come to the Prophet (pbuh) every night in Ramadan and he would study the Qur’an with him.

[Agreed upon]

Ramadan is the month of the Qur'an. Allah says in the Qur'an:

"(It is) the month of Ramadan in which the Qur’an was revealed as a guidance for mankind..." [Surat al-Baqarah, 2:185]

So let us be like the Prophet (pbuh) in increasing what we recite, and also in reflecting over what we recite. When we reflect on what we recite, our hearts should soften and we will inshAllah feel closer to Allah.

Months of Islam - RAMADHAN

Is the ninth month of the Islamic Calendar.

Meaning of Ramadaan:
Ramadaan is deprived from the Arabic word "RAMADHA", literally this means: "Intense Heat".

The possible number of reasons defining the acquisition of the name "RAMADAAN" are as established below:

1)When the Islamic months were enforced the month of fasting coincided with the summer months of intense heat.

2)The second reason which has been mentioned is that due to fasting the temperature within the stomach increases, again the element of heat is a factor behind the actual naming of RAMADHAAN.

3)It has also been said that "RAMADHAA" is one of the names of Allah Ta'aalaa. If that is the case then the month has acuired the name due to the fact that Allah Ta'aalaa burns away accumulated sins and eliminates then from the list of unlawful deeds. Once again the burning sins connotates "HEAT". However. it should be acknowledged that this reasoning is not wholly reliable.

A hadeeth regarding Ramadhaan:
Hadhrat Salmaan (R.A) reports that on the last day of Sha'baan the Messenger of Allah Ta'aalaa addressed then and said,

"Oh people, there comes before you now a great month, a most blessed month in which lies a night more greater in virtue than 1,000 months; (LAYLATUL-QADR). It is a month in which each day should be observed by fasting, this has been made obligatory by the Almighty Allah."

Great events that took place in Ramadaan:

1)Hadhrat Hasan (R.A.), the grandson of the Holy Prophet was born in this month on the 15th of Ramadhaan, three years after Hijrah.

2)On the 27th night of Ramadaan the Qur'an was revealed from the "Lauhe Mahfooz" (on the seventh sky) to the first of the skies.

3)The first Battle in the Islamic History, "BATTLE OF BADR" took place on the 12th of Ramadhaan 2 A.H.

4)Victory of Makkah took place in the year 8 A.H, entering Makkah on the 18th of Ramadhaan.

Matrimonies within Ramadhaan:

1)Hadhrat Sawdah (R.A) was married in this Holy month in the year 10 A.H. to the Holy Prophet

2)Hadhrat Zainab Bint Khuzaima's (R.A.) marriage took place in Ramadhaan in the year 3 A.H. to the Holy Prophet .

Deaths in Ramadhaan:

1) Amongst the daughters of the Holy Prophet , Hadhrat Ruqayyah (R.A) passed away at the young age of 23, 2 A.H when the Prophet was engaged in the "Battle of Badr".

2) Amongst the wives of the Holy prophet Hadhrat Khadijah (R.A) departed from this world on the 11th of Ramadhaan 10 (A.H.) after the Prophet acquired prophecy.

Welcoming The Holy Month of Ramadhan

Taken from Islamia/The Brunei Times

MUSLIMS in Brunei are preparing to welcome the holy month of Ramadhan, this week. Ramadhan, a month of obligatory daily fasting in Islam, is the ninth month in the Islamic lunar calendar. During this month, every healthy adult Muslim has to refrain from eating drinking and sex from dawn to dusk.

Allah (Subhanu Wa Ta’ala) says in Al-Quran ‘‘O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become God-fearing.’’ (QS Al-Baqara/2:183)

This is a month of immense physical and spiritual training for Muslims in their quest to achieve piety. In Ramadhan, Muslims forgo eating and drinking to please their lord. They learn how to control their desires and guard against evil.

In this way, they also express solidarity with all those who cannot afford three daily meals through experiencing hunger and thirst. In the end, they are able to feel the pain, suffered by those who have to forgo eating because of poverty. They become more compassionate towards poor.

In the night they stand for mass tarawih prayer and recite verses from Al-Quran. In this way they strengthen their link with the book of Allah (SWT) and try to understand the message sent to them by their lord.

‘‘The month of Ramadhan is that in which the Quran was revealed, a guidance to men and clear proofs of the guidance and the distinction; therefore whoever of you is present in the month, he shall fast therein.’’ (QS Al-Baqara/2:185)

In this month, Allah (SWT) showers his blessings on Muslims. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever fasts during Ramadhan with faith and seeking his reward from Allah will have his past sins forgiven. Whoever prays during the nights in Ramadan with faith and seeking his reward from Allah (SWT) will have his past sins forgiven. And he who passes Lailat al-Qadr in prayer with faith and seeking his reward from Allah will have his past sins forgiven." (Bukhari, Muslim).

However, Ramadhan is not all about being hungry or thirsty. This is a month of total dedication towards Allah (SWT).

A Muslim is supposed to follow Allah’s (SWT) commandments throughout his life. His every action is supposed to be aimed at pleasing his lord. Ramadhan is a month when a Muslim practically learns how to implement Islam in every aspect of his/her life. He should not see what displeases Allah (SWT). He should speak no evil, hear no evil and seek forgiveness from his lord. The rewards for these efforts are countless. The scientific research has proven the health benefits of fasting. It does not only purify the body but also the soul. And no one can even imagine the rewards of fasting in hereafter that have been promised by Allah (SWT).

Prophet (PBUH) said. ‘‘Every action of the son of Adam is given manifold reward, each good deed receiving then times it’s like, up to seven hundred times. Allah the most high said, ‘Except for fasting, for it is for Me and I will give reward for it, he leaves off his desires and his food for Me.’ for the fasting person there are two times of joy; a time when he breaks his fast and a time of joy when he meets his Lord, and the smell coming from the mouth of the fasting person is better with Allah (SWT) than the smell of musk.’’ [al-Bukhaaree]

Therefore, the month of Ramadhan is a great opportunity for every Muslim to explore ways to strengthen his relationship with Allah (SWT).

According to scholars, one should spend most of his free time in mosques praying, seeking forgiveness and reciting Al-Quran. During this month, one should also try spend his money to please Allah (SWT) by extending maximum financial assistance to his poor relatives and others who are in need. Being hungry and thirsty during fasting month does not mean that one should lose temper with others, especially family members. A Muslim must treating everyone nicely and Ramadhan is a time to learn and practice that. One should also make sure that all parts of his/her body are used in a way that entitles him for more reward from Allah (SWT).
