Ramadhan Sunnah - Say "I Am Fasting"

The Prophet (pbuh) said,

“When any of you is fasting… [and] if anyone reviles him or quarells with him, he should say ‘I am fasting’.”

[Bukhari/Muslim]

The Prophet (pbuh), in the same hadith, described fasting as a shield, and that a fasting person should not raise his voice or indulge in obscene language. Thus if someone quarrels with us, we should remind ourselves and the person that we are fasting in order to prevent ourselves from responding and indulging in vain and potentially harmful talk.
